Fr. 21 KL8 $1 - 1875 Series A

Fr. 21    KL8 $1  -  1875  Series A

Lot: 44     Fr. 21    KL8 $1    1875    Series A    Allison-New    #A1

A #1 one-dollar bill and from such a scarce issue is really special. There were 1,000,000 notes printed for this issue, and that was less than 10% of most similar issues at the time. It is note surprising then that only 21 serial numbers are in the current census, and only four are uncirculated. This note is, of course, the best of those 21 because it is the #1 in top condition. This note first appeared as part of the four note set that I purchased from a southern California dealer around 19880, and soon afterward sold to #1 note specialist, Harry Jones. Over the years, Harry and I have traded these several times, but in 1990, Stacks offered this note and it was acquired for this collection, at $15,400.
